Marion Shuck Presidential Address
Greetings AMAT Members!
On behalf of the AMAT Board of Directors, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you participated in AMAT 27th Annual Conference. In this very busy and hectic world, we appreciate you taking the time and effort to join us in Charleston, SC. Each of you made the conference a success and it was a great pleasure to see so many of you there! Many thanks to We Are Sharing Hope SC for hosting us for the conference, as well as for their warm welcome, southern hospitality and graciousness extended by their team throughout our time at the conference.
Special thanks to Maria Veve for her leadership as President for the past two years and we wish her well. Many thanks to our past Board Members, Advisory Council, Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs for their tireless work in promoting the mission and vision of AMAT throughout their tenure.
While all of the presentations were amazing, a few key points not only resonated with me, but I learned many new perspectives:
Life is a Balancing Act – practice self-care from a mental and physical standpoint
It’s a Different World – the minorities are now the majority. Time to specifically tailor programs and have real conversations that are inclusive of these growing diverse populations of Muslims, Hispanics or LatinX, Asians, LGBTQ, while meeting our communities where they are, whether at work, church, play or school! AMAT is prepared to start and lead the conversations.
Divine Nine – remember the past for African Americans, but move forward honoring and respecting their contributions and recognizing the landscape for which they currently live
Developing specifically tailored programs for our Muslim, LGTBQ, Generational Workforces, Divine NineWe learned to SOAR!
As always, our Connect to A Purpose stories were amazing and further instill in us the reason why we do this work and why it matters. Thanks to all our donor families and recipients for sharing their stories with our membership.
We certainly hope that the conference has been all that you expected it to be, and that you have taken the opportunity to make new friends, renew old acquaintances and strengthen your network. Feel free to contact the Membership Committee with comments, questions or concerns regarding the conference, as we strive to continue the tradition of providing a meaningful, thought-provoking and engaging conference. I look forward to seeing you in Hartford, CT in 2020, September 14th through the 18th.
Please stay involved and engaged in our membership portal to learn all the exciting happenings from webinars to toolkits. Don’t forget to join me on the first webinar of 2020 for a Fireside Chat with the President (I’m in Chicago, so I’ll have my fireplace on) as well as an update on Membership and how to use the membership portal. Always refer to the website for any of your needs.
Finally, we learned that Eagles need to SOAR! For the next 24 months, I am committed to working with each and every one of you to strengthen the bonds of AMAT as we continue to shift the paradigm and SOAR!
